What do you do with your steak knives?

This is a short but realistic look into my wacky life.

The other night my toilet stopped flushing. The only way to find that out is to use it and then flush. Ick! So there I was with a broken toilet calling the super who was loaded already by seven o'clock in the evening. My emergency calls go unheeded.

Another friend suggested I pour water into the bowl and it made all the stuff go down. First and immediate problem solved until the next day.

The next day dawns and I take a shower early, which for me is somewhere around 9:30. The super hasn't called back yet and my dad, who just had the surgery, decides that he and his chauffeur for the morning are going to come over and make sure the toilet really doesn't work.

Whilst waiting for my dad and driver to arrive, the handyman shows up as I am trying to call the super again. Enter handyman stage left.

Handyman needs to move the shelving around and above the toilet which he does in one fell swoop. Except the mouthwash falls into the top of the toilet tank. Don't need that anymore but the handyman puts it on the sink anyway.

Handyman needs to put something new in the toilet tank, some rubbery type thing methinks but I wasn't really paying attention. Dad and driver arrive and sit in my tiny living room as they are showing some really teensy female costumes for Carnival on TV. Handyman asks for a screwdriver which I provide. Then he asks for a....

steak knife!

What the heck does the man need a steak knife for in my bathroom to fix the toilet? The handyman is muttering about the need for the knife which I fetch begrudgingly. I hand it to him and he hands it back eventually. What on earth am I going to do with a knife that has been used on the toilet?

I'll tell you what. It went the same way as the mouthwash, into the trash.

What on earth do you do with your steak knives? LOL

Entertaining set-up for the scene.

Your story made me think. Have you ever thought about the water which goes into the toilet tank which waits to be used in the toilet bowl?

I believe that it is the same water which feeds the shower, works in the dishwasher, and comes out of the tap.

Thanks for making me go there. It's taken my mind off of some others things. :)

Whatever was used in the tank, NOT the bowl has come in contact with clean-ish water. I'd just wash the items with a little soap, and more of (the same) water, and call it good.

Hope the toilet is working, now. Did you have a nice visit with your Dad?

Yeah, while you can probably soak the steak knife in bleach and disinfect in the dishwasher, I'd have to dispose of the knife myself. Just too Gross!

I would have inquired what he needed a steak knife for though...

Perhaps for the future you should just get a few steak knives, make sure they are different from the ones you actually use to cut food, and store them in the medicine chest? Easy access for him, and no confusion for you! It really makes me wonder what he did with it...
Stay sane...

I too would have thrown away the knife. Ew!

I love the way you write about your everyday challenges. There seems to be always something like that, going on in my life, but not a steak knife.
